When it comes to building a family, there are many trials to overcome. This is both the joy and the burden of parenting. Overcoming these trials can be difficult in the moment, but they also create the unbreakable bonds between parent and child, as well as that between siblings. But, how do we overcome these trials? What do you do to give your children the best possible childhood? There are many things, small and large, that you can do to make your child’s childhood the best it can be. Here are just a few small suggestions.
Perhaps the most important thing you can do is to take an active interest in your child’s hobbies. When I was a kid, I came to like two things above all else: sci fi and drawing. So, my dad handed me down some of his favorite sci fi novels, such as the unforgettable “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” and he drew with me. These small things meant so much to me growing up and helped me to become someone with an interesting in writing a novel, myself, and illustrating it, too. So, whatever your child is into, be into it with them. Participate in their hobbies with them, if possible.
Likewise, sharing your own interests with your child, as my dad did with me, goes a long way toward helping your child discover what they like to begin with. Who’s to say if my love of sci fi and fantasy would have come to fruition without my dad sharing his own interest? So, if you like sports, for example, don’t be afraid to grab some gear from Fanatics and take your child to see a game or two. However, you can’t be too bummed out if they end up not taking to it. After all, I bring up sports because my dad is a big sports fan, and while I have a passing interest in sports, it’s just not the kind of entertainment I seek, instead opting for video games and esports, instead. You have to let your children be themselves.
